GreatPlacesToRetire.com Ranking Methodology

Ninety-nine elite destinations in the U.S. are tracked by the GreatPlacesToRetire.com survey. A simple ranking process is used to determine the best cities to buy that retirement, vacation or investment home.

All cities are ranked from "1" (the best) to "99" (not) in each of 19 different Quality of Life criteria (check the links at the top of this page). The 19 ranks for each city are averaged. The city with the lowest average rank emerges as the top city.
