Retire to Massachusetts

Massachusetts, the 6th state to enter the Union in 1788, is in the New England region of the U.S. situated between Connecticut and Rhode Island to the south and New Hampshire and Vermont to the north.

Massachusetts is one of the most densely populated states in the nation with the majority of population in the Boston metro area. Worcester and Springfield are other large cities. Boston is the capital city.

The topography stretches from the coastal lowland near the Atlantic Ocean in the east, to the lowland farms farther west and the higher country and mountains of the Appalachia to the far west.

The climate is warm summers and cold winters with higher than average precipitation. Winter temps are milder near the coast.

Massachusetts has one of the highest median household incomes in the nation. Massachusetts is a leader in higher education, finance, insurance and cranberry production. Massachusetts ranks as a high tax state.
