Retire to Maine

Maine became the 23rd state admitted to the Union in 1820. Maine is the largest New England state with Canada surrounding it to the north, east and west and the Atlantic Ocean to the east.

The largest city in Maine is Portland with less than 70,000 residents. Augusta is the capital city.

Maine terrain is famous for its rocky coastline and forest-covered inland. Maine's climate is warm and humid in summer and cold and snowy in winter though the coastal temperatures are tempered by the Atlantic. Annual precipitation is very high throughout the state.

Leading sectors in Maine's economy are lumber and wood products, blueberries, shipbuilding and the port of Portland. Maine is ranked as a low tax state.
